History and Program Overview

History

Polymer Science and Technology M. Sc. Program is an interdisciplinary program which was established in 2016 within the Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences. The founding chairman of the Polymer Science and Technology MSc Program is Prof. Dr. Nilhan KAYAMAN APOHAN. Currently eight professors, six associate professors and six assistant professors from different facilities such as  Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Technology, serve as teaching staff members. Education Language is Turkish.

Qualification Awarded

M. Sc. degree in Polymer Science and Technology

Specific Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a B. Sc. degree either in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Pharmacy or all engineering departments. Applicants must take at least 60 points out of 100 from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) organized by Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Moreover applicants must take at least 50 points from the Interuniversity Board Foreign Language Examination (UDS) or from the Marmara University the Foreign Language Examination. Please check the website of the institute for further details and recent changes. http://fbe.marmara.edu.tr/

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students who apply to this program must be graduated from one of the following departments: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Pharmacy or all engineering departments. If necessary, applicants have to take the Scientific Preparatory Program Courses. For those who take this Scientific Preparatory Program, courses are selected from the Scientific Preparatory Program Courses.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The qualification points of the applicant must be at least 60 over 100 which is calculated by the sum of 50% of the applicant’s ALES score, 20% of the applicant’s B. Sc. graduation point (over 100), 15% of the professional assessment examination score and 15% of the personal interview score. The candidates with a minimum score of 60 are sorted with respect to their total qualification points and accepted to the program as the contingents allow. Please check the website of the institute for further details and recent changes. http://fbe.marmara.edu.tr/

Profile of the Program

Program is composed of two parts: Lectures and Master Thesis. Lectures include detailed topics related to Polymer Science and Technology.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates can continue their academic career or they can find positions in the quality control, research and development or production departments of medicine, plastics, paint, coatings, adhesives, fiber, polymeric biomaterials and special polymer industries.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of Polymer Science and Technology may apply to doctoral programs which are compatible with this area. If they are successful they are accepted to the doctoral programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The passing achievement grade of each course should be minimum 65/100. In the calculation of final achievement grade of course, ratios of the grades obtained from the mid-term(s) and final examinations are taken as 50% of each. At least 70% attendance to the courses is also required. The grade (S) and grade (U) are used for the Seminar Course and Master's Thesis. The grade (S) is given to students who are successful and the grade (U) is given to students who are not successful. In order to obtain the GPA for any given semester, the total score earned in that semester is divided by the sum of credits. The CGPA is calculated by taking into account all the courses taken by a student starting from her/his registration.

Graduation Requirements

Students must successfully complete at least 21 credit hours of at least seven selective lessons and Specialization Field Courses. Furthermore a non-credit Seminar lesson and M. Sc thesis study must be successfully completed. Even if the students pass all the required lessons, in case of their GANO (General average score) is below 2.5, student must repeat their courses until the required GANO is achieved.

Mode of Study (Full-Time, Part-Time, E-Learning)
